Solid Waste Management
Problem & Opportunities
The earth has been bearing the brunt of man’s greed of wealth and rapid industrialization. One of the major challenges of industrialization, population explosion and urbanization is the generation of solid waste and its management. With means of disposal becoming smaller and accumulation becoming larger, solid waste management especially of hazardous and toxic waste is posing hurdles for sustainability of the earth. The generation of today is failing the generation of tomorrow by the inability to reduce toxic and hazardous waste accumulation in the ecosystem. This is also one of the major challenges of the ‘Carbon Economy’ that needs to be tackled and shifted to the ‘Bioeconomy’ zone. Solid waste from engineering and heavy industries, paint and fertilizer industry etc are creating a need for the xenobiotic sciences to be commercialized. We bring forth microbe, plant and insect-based solutions and innovative product packages for tackling solid waste management especially of toxic and hazardous waste that can be converted biologically and made non-hazardous.
Challenge
Industrialization has seen the pace of progress that transformed human lives permanently. The wake of rapid progress and crunched time spans of ideas to produce has exceeded all expectations. The need for progress in the years gone by has also seen its impact on earth. A key challenge to furthering the growth of industry and an impediment to earth is the accumulation of solid waste. Of particular challenge is toxic and hazardous waste generated in tonnages around the earth. The atmosphere bears the brunt of landfill gasses and incineration fumes that spew the atmosphere with unwanted material, more than it can handle. It is of prime importance that businesses consider value and focus
